The Magic Carpet Swap N Shop!
When: 06/07/08 from 1PM-4PM
Where: The North Augusta Community Center, rooms C1 and C2

What: A chance to buy, sell, and swap your gently used or handmade belly dance costuming, accessories, even fabric and raw materials for costume-making, with other dancers in your community! Come out to browse around, have fun, and pick up a few new favorites or send your unwanted items to a great home! This is the perfect chance to pick up that first costume or just something new for Summer performances. There will also be a raffle and bake sale of delicious desserts made by Alchemy! Two raffle prizes: 1) a one-hour private lesson with Alchemy and up to four of your friends! ($125 value) 2) A $25 gift card to a local restaurant! Raffle tickets are only $1 each! Proceeds from the raffle and bake sale go to support Alchemy's efforts to bring the amazing Unmata to Augusta for The Southern Oasis 2009!
Who: Alchemy is hosting and would like to welcome EVERYONE in the community, from Savannah to Charleston, from Atlanta to Lexington, and beyond to join us for a fun and shopping! Whether you are new to dance or a decorated Diva, there will be something there for you! Please be sure to bring your reusable shopping bag to take home your goodies!

We are opening vendor spots to the average dancer first. If you would like to secure a spot, it's just $5. You bring a table or blanket, set up your wares, determine your prices or swapping options, and have a great time! We'll provide mirrors and set up a small changing area for try-ons. If we have space after the cut-off date, we will offer spaces to professional vendors, selling new products, on a limited, first-come, first-serve basis. If you are a professional, volume vendor, please feel free to email jeannie@alchemydanc e.com to get on the waiting list. Please note: There is limited space, so we cannot give large vendors unlimited space! Two racks and two tables that you provide at the very most, and we reserve the right to limit the amount of space you use on the date. This is meant to be a community event to recycle and reuse unwanted costuming, accessories and materials while bringing the community together in the spirit of sharing and mutual
benefit.

    Heya everyone!



    Info and reminders about the Swap n Shop (see the end of the email for the original info that went out) : Anyone who reserved a space must pay Jeannie the fee BEFORE you will be allowed to set up. For private swappers, that's $5, for professional vendors, that's $10. Not sure which you are? If you are offering primarily used items, a la a yard sale, you are a private swapper. If you are offering primarily new items, whether or not they are handmade by you, you are a professional vendor. We love vendors that offer handmade wares as we are fueling and encouraging the handmade revolution! So, this isn't an event where you will see alot of mass-market products that everyone else has. Viva la DIY!



    There will NOT be tables there. We encourage everyone to bring a small table or, preferably, a blanket. Please keep in mind that this is a community event, and there will be alot of blankets and swappers. So, try not to crowd your neighbors or take over the entire space. We want everyone to benefit from this event so we can try to do it again and we want this to primarily be a chance for use to recycle costuming. Please determine BEFOREHAND what you are willing to swap, what you wish to sell, and what prices you are willing to accept. If you are selling, please bring change. Of course, you are solely responsible for your stuff and your cash. If you are buying, please bring smaller bills. There won't be anyone there to break that c-note, big spender! ;)



    Plan to be there at 1PM to set up, and plan to be out by 4PM. Leave the space how you found it. I know it's a short time, but we didn't want to rent the room for eight hours, and only five or six people show up. If we have a good response, we'll try to get it for longer, but be aware that it will require everyone to contribute another fee for your spot so that the financial burden isn't on any one person. Again, this is a community event. :)



    Alchemy will be having a raffle (see below for more details) and a bake sale (ditto). Come hungry and support our efforts to bring Unmata to the Southern Oasis in 2009! If you want to contribute something to the bake/food sale, we'd love that! We have water, lots of sweets, and sandwiches lined up. Just email me if you want to make a contribution. :)



    Bring a friend or seven and browse the blankets, buy a raffle ticket and have fun in a casual setting with YOUR bellydance community! Bring a reusable bag to bring your stuff home in, and a backpack with anything you might want to offer for a swap. Remember, EVERYONE in every troupe, every style, every area is more than welcome! Please join us! We'd love to see all our shimmying, drumming, and supportive friends there!
